Adaptada de um romance da feminista Ingeborg Bachman (falecida em 1973), este drama em língua francesa sobre o "amour fou", foi filmado pela realizadora/directora de fotografia Elfi Mikesch. Isabelle Huppert interpreta o papel de uma romancista a braços com uma profunda depressão e angústia existencial. Ela vive em Viena com a muito mais tranquila Malina (Mathieu Carriére), uma fotógrafa. Repleta de simbolismo freudiano, esta história, amiúde surrealista e conturbada, centra-se na nova relação desta mulher com outro homem, cada vez mais inconstante devido ao seu estado de perturbação mental.

Isabelle Huppert stars as a novelist suffering from a severe bout of depression and existential angst. She lives in Vienna with the much calmer Malina (Mathieu Carriére), a photographer. Fraught with Freudian symbolism, the often surreal and convoluted story centres on her new relationship with another man, made increasingly volatile by her troubled mental state.
