"Get Real" é um filme acerca de um grupo de adolescentes que crescem em Basingstoke, em Inglaterra. É um filme sobre o que é crescer na Inglaterra suburbana à medida que os jovens de dezasseis anos se "aproximam do novo milénio" (para roubar uma deixa do filme). "Get Real" is a movie about a group of teenagres growing up in Basingstoke, England. It is a film about growing up in suburban England as these sixteen-year-olds "approach the new millenium" (to steal a line from the movie). The quick-witted script keeps the audience laughing as it deals with very serious, heart-warming and heartbreaking events in the lives of the characters.
The main character, Steven Carter, is sixteen-years old and gay. He has decided to keep this quiet from his parents and to everyone at school except for his friend Linda.
The plot heats up when Steven humourously and embarrassingly ends up meeting John Dixon - the school's star athlete, who dates an aspiring model and comes from a very well-to-do family - at a public toilet known as a meeting spot for anonymous gay hookups. Steven is overjoyed at finally meeting someone else his age who is gay; John is embarrassed and confused by his emerging sexuality.
"Get Real" masterfully shows the conflicts that any gay person would feel growing up in a society that expects everyone to be heterosexual.

Inicialmente concebida como uma introdução a uma retrospectiva de filmes de Jarman e criada pelo British Council, para ser apresentada no estrangeiro, esta entrevista torna-se, graças à habilidade da realizadora, Keri McMullen, num elegante retrato. Jarman reflecte sobre os seus filmes mais importantes - a sua surpresa face à reacção contra "Jubilee" e "Sebastiane", a satisfação com "Caravaggio" e o deleite com "The Angelic Conversation". Originally intended as an introduction to a collection of Derek Jarman's films, created by the British Council, to tour overseas, this interview becomes in the hands of director Keri McMullen, an elegant portrait. Jarman reflects on his major films - his surprise at the reaction against "Jubilee" and "Sebastiane", his satisfaction with "Caravaggio" and delight in "The Angelic Conversation". All the while, the camera stays with him, revealing but humane. Despite the debilitating effects of his illness (he was filmed on the very day he left hospital following pneumonia), we see an artist with his inner vision still unimpaired, still humorous, self-effacing, quirky and disarmingly charming. A remarkable document and statement for the 1990s.

Displaying little of the queer militancy that has distinguished a number of Jarman's films, and another in a series of biographies of gay historical figures (Sebastiane, Edward II, Caravaggio), this amusing, intellectual portrait of Austrian-born, British-educated philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein is both a startling primer in low-budget filmmaking as well as a visually exuberant work. Considered one of the century's most influential philosophers, Wittgenstein's private and professional life is chronicled - from his prodigy childhood to his reluctant life as a professor at Cambridge. Jarman utilizes a pitch-black background, allowing the richly drawn, outrageously costumed characters and their witty, thought-provoking dialogue to take center stage. Karl Johnson plays the eccentric philosopher who tackled the weighty theories of logic and truth but was burdened with guilt about his homosexuality. Tilda Swinton is lavishly campy as Lady Ottoline and Clancey Chassey is delightful as the young but amazingly self-aware Wittgenstein. Shot in less than two weeks for under £300,000, this Channel 4-backed film proves to be an invigorating, uncompromising work.

The cast of wasted characters includes a passively receptive and sexually mesmeric Adam Ant, Little Nell and a strong-willed Toyah Wilcox. Jordon's punk version of "Rule Brittania" is a musical highlight with additional music by Adam and the Ants, Siouxie and the Banshees, and Brian Eno. A fascinating look at a pre-Thatcherized England.

While director Jarman fitfully sleeps in his garden, his cryptic dreams - culled from his subconscious and his fevered imagination - are played out in their fullest, queerest glory. The lyrical images of male love, tenderness and art are interspersed with images of natural beauty; but all collide against a backlash of homophobia, persecution and death. An allegory for AIDS, the film's main narrative thrust depicts two male lovers as they, in the manner of Jesus Christ, are taunted, arrested, tortured and are crucified for their beliefs. A stunningly filmed work of art, full of poetically realized images and fueled with an intense longing for understanding, peace and brotherhood. Supported by a haunting score by Simon Fisher Turner and featuring Tilda Swinton.

Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio (1573-1610) was the last, perhaps the greatest, and certainly the most controversial painter of the Italian Renaissance. This bold tribute to the violative artist features Nigel Terry as Caravaggio, a "bad-boy" of Italian aristocracy who scandalized the established order with his faintly erotic paintings of the naked saints modeled by prostitutes and street urchins. Jarman portrays Caravaggio as a man of intense passions - artistically, emotionally and physically - who was also a bisexual with a taste for "rough trade". Sean Bean is the bisexual Ranuccio, his rugged lover, and Tilda Swinton is Lena, his beautiful mistress who comes between them. An elegant film blending anachronistic playfulness (a technique used again in "Edward II") with a touching homoerotic love story, spectacular camera work and a complex, impressionist feel. Jarman spent seven years preparing for the film and when actual production began, he made it only in five weeks.
