Director Christian Liffers travels with his team to Cuba in search of evidence. In his luggage he carries the poems and prose texts of Cuban author Reinaldo Arenas. These words which describe the desire for love, for sexual freedom, so as the proud and unbending attitude in the fight against discrimination. Are these desires and attitudes still to be found in Cuba? And which desires, clichés, and projections of Cuba draw the producer and many other people to this reality? Poems and prose texts are the reference points for the protagonists and their personal stories of present-day Cuba, which are always the centre of attention in this documentary. Six men with different backgrounds and of different ages describe their life, afflictions, desires, longings and joys in Cuba. They have some things in common: homosexuality (with the exception of Isabel, the transsexual) and the daily social exclusion on the part of the Cuban 'Machismo-society' and the Cuban government.

Velado por uma fachada burguesa de aparente insignificância, Georg leva uma vida de isolamento e solidão. O seu único veículo de escape é o amor por Sebastian e toda a sua vida é organizada em torno das visitas do jovem prostituto. Georg é atraído pelo espírito espontâneo e lúdico do rapaz. Ele adora as histórias absurdas que parecem brotar espontaneamente na imaginação de Sebastian e cuja veracidade não conseguimos deixar de questionar. Behind Georg's petty bourgeois façade is a man who leads a totally isolated and lonely life. His only point of reference is his love towards a young male prostitute, and his entire life revolves around the latter's visits. Georg likes Sebastian's easiness and playful behaviour. He loves the absurd stories, which spontaneously come into the boy's mind, and of which one can never be sure if they are real or not. And today, it seems that one of Georg's long time wishes could come true: this time it's the boy who asks if he can stay overnight. But this fragile balance is in danger of collapsing when the boy says that he wants to leave him.

The two men are careful due to paragraph 175 which forbids the love between men. The Eldorado, a famous night club, gets violently closed down by the SA. Karl, a good friend of Erich, decides to immigrate to Holland for fear of the Nazi regime. Erich is also worried and wants to talk about it with Wolfgang. But Wolfgang is not interested, this evening he just wants to have sex. The two get into a fight. Finally, Wolfgang convinces Erich that his position as a Storm Trooper is powerful enough to protect both of them. The next morning the two are surprised by the SA...

Filmed in diary format, A Street Angel with a Cowboy Mouth documents Rhythm King and Her Friends' European tour, undertaken shortly after the release of their first LP I am Disco with Kitty-Yo. Concert footage from Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Paris, Geneva, London, Manchester, Glasgow, Athens or Rome is supplemented with the rarely seen side of touring: backstage life, the travel, the encounters along the way. The film shows us the different underground scenes the band performs in, the relationship with their public, and the cooperation with other musicians, be it at queer festivals, ladyfests or electronic music clubs. The diary style makes it possible for Rhythm King and Her Friends to reflect upon their musical and artistic methods; and includes commentary about the texts of I am Disco, as well as the collective work practices of the band. Apart from the experiences of the band itself, this film throws a light on the current electronic scene, introducing not only various organizers of the musical events, but also meetings along the way with many girl bands and stars such as Robots in Disguise, Angie Reed, Scream Club, Stereo Total, Cobra Killer, Tara Delong & Lesbians on Ecstasy.
