Pressionada pelo seu jovem namorado Rosário a assumir a identidade feminina, submetendo-se a uma operação de mudança de sexo, Tonia luta contra as suas convicções religiosas mais profundas: se, por um lado, quer tornar-se a mulher que Rosário tanto deseja, por outro, acredita que perante Deus nunca poderá ser essa mulher. E o soldado desertor, o filho que ela tinha abandonado em criança, vem à sua procura.
Tonia descobre que está doente. Com o pretexto de visitar o irmão de Rosário, foge para o campo com o namorado. Perdem-se numa floresta encantada, um mundo mágico onde encontram a enigmática Maria Bakker e a sua amiga Paula.
E este encontro vai mudar as suas vidas.

Tonia discovers that she's ill. She escapes to the countryside with Rosário, on the excuse of visiting his brother. Rosário takes the road of his childhood but will never find the right way. Lost, they find themselves in an enchanted forest, a magical world where they come across the enigmatic Maria Bakker and her friend Paula.
And that meeting will turn their whole world on its head.

Situada na esquina das ruas Shakespeare e Victor Hugo na Cidade do México, encontra-se a Casa de Hóspedes de Rosa Carbajal, un refúgio que oculta uma história íntima e apaixonante. Há 20 anos atrás, Rosa conheceu Jorge Riosse, um jovem inquilino com o qual desenvolveu uma terna amizade. Durante oito anos, a estadia de Jorge na Casa deixou marcas indeléveis em todos aqueles que o conheceram. Mas foi apenas depois da sua morte abrupta que vieram à luz os rasgos mais ocultos da sua personalidade. Uma noite, em 1993, Jorge morre num incêndio que deflagrou no seu quarto. Nos dias seguintes, Rosa depara-se com diferentes pistas e explicações que o relacionam a um assassino em série que, desde 1991, matou pelo menos 13 prostitutas em vários hotéis do bairro popular de La Merced. Apesar de todas as suspeitas, Rosa, avó da realizadora Yulene Olaizola, recorda Jorge como um talentoso jovem que encheu a sua vida de arte, música e, sobretudo, muito carinho. There is a lodging house, owned by Rosa Carbajal, at the intersection of Shakespeare and Victor Hugo streets in Mexico City, a shelter that hides an intimate and passionate story. Twenty years ago, Rosa met Jorge Riosse, a young tenant who became her closest friend. For eight years he made an indelible impression on everyone he knew. But it was after his sudden death that some dark characteristics emerged. One night, in 1993, his room set on fire and Jorge died. Rosa undertook a personal investigation on this fatal accident and soon discovered different clues which related Jorge with a serial killer who had strangled at least 13 women in different hotels in the popular La Merced district. However, in spite of her doubts and suspicions, Rosa, the filmmaker Yulene Olaizola's grandmother, still remembers him as the talented
young man who shared with her his art, his music and, above all, his affection. A heartfelt portrait of two characters, lonely in their own way or in spite of themselves, strongly and strangely entwined.

Two young men, Johann and Robin, take a trip into the countryside. The more they walk the forests of Brandenburg, the stranger their adventure becomes. Bikes disappear, maps prove useless - and each gets to know a new side of the other. Johann and Robin regard the new situation as a kind of sporting challenge. Tendo como pano de fundo a construção do muro que separa Israel dos Territórios Palestinianos e a luta pela organização da Marcha Gay de Jerusalém, City of Borders explora as batalhas diárias desta resistente comunidade pelo direito à dignidade e à existência. Ao observar as vidas e as lutas dos clientes do Shushan, o documentário enaltece os laços que se criam quando pessoas de mundos diferentes se unem naquilo que todos partilhamos - o direito a ser-se aceite -, em lugar de se deixarem definir pelas diferenças que os separam.

Aos 12 anos, Mark Payne começou a fazer filmes caseiros de si próprio interpretando as suas cantoras favoritas: Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Barbra Streisand e Diana Ross. Um ano mais tarde, trabalhava já na indústria do entretenimento ao lado de figuras de proa como Bob Hope e Milton Berle. Dirigido pelo próprio Mark Payne, e incluindo excertos das interpretações gravadas durante a sua infância, Get Happy é uma extravagância musical acerca de uma criança a quem a mãe e a avó permitiram expressar-se de uma forma pouco convencional.

At the age of 12, Mark Payne began making home movies of himself performing as his favorite singers: Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross. A year later, he was working in the entertainment business along such luminaries as Bob Hope and Milton Berle. Directed by Tom Payne himself, and including actual footage of his childhood performances, Get Happy is a coming of age musical extravaganza about a child raised by his mother and grandmother, who allowed him to express himself in a most unconventional way.

Ghosted is the suspenseful story of an unusual love affair that bridges two cultures and two cities. The sudden death in unexplained circumstances of her young Taiwanese lover Ai-ling throws Hamburg artist Sophie Schmitt totally off balance. She travels to Taipei to exhibit a video installation dedicated to Ai-ling. On the opening night, Sophie is approached by a pushy journalist, Mei-li, who takes her on a trip to the famous Taipei night markets and tries to seduce the grieving artist. But Sophie rejects her and returns to Hamburg. Shortly thereafter, Mei-li turns up on Sophie's doorstep unannounced. Soon, Sophie realises that Mei-li is secretly investigating Ai-ling's death. A series of strange happenings and sudden flashes of
recollection unsettle Sophie. Then she discovers that the Taiwanese newspaper that Mei-Li claims to work for has never heard of her and that nobody by that name has ever entered Germany. So who is this mysterious woman?

Ander, um camponês basco na casa dos quarenta, vive sozinho com a mãe e a irmã, em pleno virar do século XX. Mas a sua vida começa a mudar quando um dia, devido a um acidente, se vê forçado a contratar um ajudante peruano, José. A presença do recém-chegado vai alterar inconscientemente as relações entre Ander e os seus familiares e amigos. Ander, a Basque countryman well into his forties, lives alone with his mother and sister at the turn of the twentieth century. He lives a monotonous life between his work in a bycicle factory and his peasent duties shared with his sister and their elder mother. His life starts to change when, due to an accident, he needs to hire a Peruvian helper, José. The newcomer's presence alters unintentionally the relationships between Ander and his relatives and acquaintances. When he acknowledges that he is develloping deep feelings towards José, he has to decide whether he will transform his life in order to include him or not.

George Bataille's Story of the Eye is a film about spectatorship, inspired and informed by the academic, transgressive and yet oddly sentimental philosophy of Georges Bataille, appropriating the title of his most famous work for a mesmerizing examination of bizarre anticipation.

Raging Sun, Raging Sky is the story of two men that love each other without being attached to any spatial or temporal circumstance. A straight couple wakes up one fine morning and strange things start to happen with the boy. In the meantime, the girl is watching a weird TV documentary on the praying mantis. The relationship between the two of them will gradually suffer a huge transformation.

O corpo de uma travesti morta é preparado por outras travestis para o funeral. A família, após receber o corpo, decide enterrá-lo como homem. Uma procissão de travestis encaminha-se então para o funeral para dizer adeus. Os sapatos são calçados. A morte é apenas uma janela.

The body of a dead transvestite is prepared for the wake by others transvestites. The family, after receiving the body, decides to bury him as a man. A procession of transvestites heads to the wake to say goodbye. The shoes are put on. Death is nothing but a window.

Um corpo humano interage directamente com a câmara fixa que fotografa este corpo de cinco em cinco segundos. Rodando face uma à outra e alternando posições disciplinarmente rígidas e poses de corpo inteiro, bem como de partes do corpo, realça-se o seguinte: O individuo é simultaneamente tornado num múltiplo "produtor óptico de ritmo", subdividindo-se em muitos corpos idênticos ou fundindo-os num só, compondo novas formas de ser. A human body directly interacts with the fix mounted camera which takes a picture of this body every five seconds. Changing towards one another, alternating, strict disciplinary positions and poses of the whole body, and of parts of the body bring about the following: The person is simultaneously made into a multiple "optical producer of rhythm," splitting itself into many identical bodies or fusing them together to form new types of beings. The basis of composition are centrality and symmetry, which are then broken. (Albert Sackl)

"Vendo televisão" durante quase dois dias e noites, exactamente 44 horas, activamente sentado-frente-ao-televisor-ligado são condensados na proporção de 1:200 na duração do filme. A câmara estática revela-nos uma pessoa numa posição frontal e central, sentado todo o tempo na poltrona reclinável e vendo televisão; sobre a cabeça dessa pessoa, o ecrã da televisão é espelhado. Este acto de ver televisão (que inclui comer, fumar, dormir à noite, continuar a ver televisão, etc.), com lapsos temporais, atinge um nível "realista" através dos regulares intervalos nos quais curtas pausas em tempo real são acrescentadas quando o rolo do filme é mudado. "Watching TV" almost two days and nights, exactly 44 hours long, actively sitting-in-front-of-the-TV-turned-on is condensed 1:200 into the length of the film. The static camera shows a person in a frontal and central position sitting the whole time in the recliner and watching TV; over the person's head the TV set is mirrored into the camera. This act of watching TV (which includes eating food, smoking, sleeping at night, continuing to watch TV, etc.), in time-lapse, attains a "realistic" level through the regular intervals in which short breathers in real time are added when changing the rolls of film. Em Vom Innen; von aussen, Albert Sackl, enquanto está nu, de pé numa caixa negra, anima o seu próprio corpo com uma série de fotogramas isolados expostos na câmara de filmar. Enquanto isso, Sackl, o realizador, coreografa os movimentos de Sackl, o modelo, ao mais ínfimo detalhe, rodando o corpo - relaxado, não assumindo um papel activo -, sobre o seu próprio eixo e mais uma vez de volta à posição inicial. In Vom Innen; von aussen Albert Sackl, while standing naked in a black box, animates his own body with a series of single frames exposed in the film camera. While doing so director Sackl choreographs the movements of model Sackl to the minutest detail, turning the body, which stands at ease, not playing an active role, on its own axis and back again. Later, illuminated by stroboscopic flickering, he and his double rotate side by side in opposite directions, the flickering caused by the alternation between the individual frames, first on the left, then the right. As if even this rigid arrangement was eventually too much for the apparatus, the camera occasionally pans outside the neutral box, across the studio and to a mirror on the wall where the lead actor can be seen dashing to and fro. Experimental films which are so precise technically and at the same time demonstrate a sense of humour are rare. Frontal views of the body alternate on the fly with rear views until they blur in a trompe-l'oeil effect: A being which defies the laws of perspective is created before our very eyes, and it seems strange and familiar at the same time. When Vom Innen; von aussen finally leaves the studio to continue the test series outdoors, surrounded by bushes, on snow and ice in bare feet, it becomes clear that Sackl's desire to experiment is based on more than a purely aesthetic decision. While in the background the wind sets the entire forest scenery in motion, while the sun flickers and the darkness begins to descend, the camera continues to animate Sackl's body stoically, letting it wander closer and then farther away, as if it existed in another, parallel cosmos which, disconnected from the time of day and season, is subjected to its own mechanical laws. Observing something "from the outside", and at the same time talking about the "inside": one possible definition of successful cinema. (Maya McKechneay)

As cenas de sexo alternam com flashbacks da infância dos dois irmãos e, quando o mais novo se suicida, o mais velho entrega-se a uma voragem sexual cada vez mais desesperada e assombrada pelo passado. Do Me Evil tells the story of an incestuous relationship between two brothers, one of them mentally handicapped, the other one jealous of his mother's preference over her younger son. After their mother's death, they are forced into a solitary coexistence - where sex and emotional blackmail are in precarious balance - that is only interrupted when the older brother goes out to hustle. The sex scenes alternate with flashbacks from their childhood and, when the younger brother commits suicide, the other one gives himself into a sexual frenzy, more and more desperate and haunted by the past. A classic from the seventies, where drama and pornography mix themselves in an unusual fashion.

O striptease é indissociável da história da exploração da mulher, em termos de uma economia patriarcal, bem como de uma rígida imagética do corpo e das políticas do olhar. Desde inícios dos anos 1990, o 'novo burlesco', derivado de algumas estéticas teatrais dos anos 1930, tem trabalhado este género com humor e uma consciência do self, procurando uma nova experiência do corpo feminino enquanto mapa auto-determinado de atracção. Neste caso, a carga sexual é complementada com um jogo quase dançado de poses e gestos que não têm como alvo o olhar masculino, propagando antes imagens alternativas do corpo. Com Aria de Mustang, a segunda parte de uma planeada trilogia, Katrina Daschner faz uma referência muito clara a este género, ao mesmo tempo em que o expande com signos e imagens lésbico-queer e também sadomasoquistas, que não têm qualquer espaço de expressão nos comuns sistemas representativos hetero-normativos. Desde o início, Daschner clarifica o contexto no qual se posiciona, ou seja, a que olhos e ouvidos se expõe, através das suas performances. Candidatas, que trabalham no meio artístico e cultural lésbico-queer de Viena, vestidas de trajos de equitação, emolduram este cenário eléctrico e glamouroso como se de um coro grego se tratasse, funcionando como ruidosas comentadoras que concluem assim o vídeo. A coreografia da performance, na qual Daschner e duas amantes (todas em figurinos fetichistas) se dão prazer, desenvolve-se a par de uma linha melódica repetida, assinada por uma banda local, os Bonanza Jellybean: "I know, that I am gorgeous, that is nothing new. When I go to bed tonight it will definitely not be with you." Apesar da clara rejeição expressa na letra, um fitar directo e autónomo da câmara, mantendo contacto directo com o espectador, revela-se o gesto que define, quer as performers, quer o coro. Mesmo quando uma cena pornográfica remata o final da performance, as actrizes não baixam o olhar com vergonha; ao invés, as suas expressões permanecem controladas: uma releitura queer da situação existente que encena um lascivo namoro com a câmara. The striptease is accompanied by the history of exploitation of women, in terms of a patriarchal economy as well as a rigid body image and regime of the gaze. Since the early 1990s, "new Burlesque," following from the theatre forms of the 1930s, has net this genre with humour and self awareness and attempted to re-open the female body as a self-determined field of attraction. The sexual charge is, in this case, supplemented with a dance-like game of poses and gestures that does not aim at a purely male gaze, and propagates alternative body images. With Aria de Mustang, the second part of a planned trilogy, Katrina Daschner makes a very clear reference to this genre, but at the same time expands it with queer-lesbian, and also sadomasochistic signs and images, which have no place in common hetero-normative representational systems. Right from the start, Daschner clarifies the context that she positions herself in, that is, which eyes and ears she exposes herself to with her performance. Proponents working in Vienna's queer-lesbian art and culture scene dressed in riding outfits frame the glamorous sparkling setting like a Greek chorus, and function as roaring commentators who conclude the video. The choreography of the performance, in which Daschner and two lovers (all in fetish costumes) enjoy themselves, runs along a multiply repeating line of a song from the local music group Bonanza Jellybean: "I know, that I am gorgeous, that is nothing new. When I go to bed tonight it will definitely not be with you." Despite the unambiguous rejection in the lyrics, a direct and autonomous gaze into the camera maintaining steady contact with the audience remains the defining gesture of both the performers as well as the chorus. Even when a pornographic scene marks the end of the performance, the actresses do not lower their eyes in shame; instead, their expressions remain controlled: A queering of the existing situation that stages a coquettish flirt with the camera. A remnant of a performance based on the pioneering queer film The Killing of Sister George (1969), Stefanie Seibold's video intercuts an all woman club scene from the film with black frames. The result is a meditation on sameness and difference (on the explosive differences in assumed sameness) and on the passions filmic identification can unleash when an image surrenders to its afterimage. A triple historical document, then, of a performance based on a film (itself adapted from a stage play), Seibold's video leaves 'you' ('us') with glimpses of cinema's capacity to portray the invisible: here, the social divisions that at the same time alienate women and allow them, and us, to identify with each other in a crowd. An online hook up for sex with a stranger, Scott (36), temporarily satisfies but fails to dampen his unspoken desires for his best mate, Jonno. Nessa, their twisted, foul-mouthed and controlling, de facto gang leader, suspects that there is something going on between them. For no good reason an innocent student, Olivier (19), falls victim to one of her plans and is mugged on her orders by the gang. Cal steps in to restrain them and creates a distraction
allowing Olivier to run free. Ignoring Nessa's screams of contempt, he chases after him and offers him a lift by way of an apology. Fearing that the fall-out from Nessa for his actions will be harsh, Cal persuades Olivier to help him out. From the same screenwriter of the recent film Milk, by Gus Van Sant, Pedro is the biographical film adaptation of the life of Pedro Zamora, who became famous by participating in the MTV reality show The Real World. Born in Cuba, he emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1980. The youngest child in a close family, Zamora's life changed at the age of 13 when his mother died. Already a top student, he immersed himself in his studies. When he was 17, and after engaging in unprotected sex, he discovered that he was HIV-positive. Once he absorbed the initial shock, Zamora made the life-altering decision to become an activist and educator. He decided to audition for the San Francisco season of MTV's The Real World, which seemed like the perfect opportunity to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS. The exposure brought Pedro worldwide recognition. For millions of people, he was the only person they knew living with HIV.

A principal inspiração para a concepção deste filme foi a polémica censura a Syndromes and a Century [longa-metragem tailandesa realizada por Apichatpong Weerasethakul, em 2006]. Esta é uma vingança em ecrã de cinema. Demasiadas vezes se clama que é arte evitar o termo 'obscenidade'. A pornografia é pecado na sociedade tailandesa. Meramente quis fazer este filme sem considerar se é arte ou não, ou se é mesmo obsceno. Não faço ideia. A única coisa que sei é que as pessoas são, acima de tudo, beleza, e somos ainda mais belos enquanto ainda respiramos, vivemos, amamos, estamos juntos e temos relações sexuais. The main inspiration for the conception of this film was the censorship issue concerning Syndromes and a Century [Thai feature film directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, in 2006]. This is a revenge on the movie screen. Too often we claim it is art to avoid the word 'obscenity'. Pornography is a sin in Thai society. I merely want to make this film without considering whether it is art or not, or whether it is obscene at all. I have no idea about that. The only thing I know is people are, all in all, a beauty, and we are even more beautiful when we're still breathing, living, loving, being together, and still having sex. (Thunska Pansittivorakul)

Este consiste em dois vídeos (Butterfly e Tail), nos quais uso as notas como uma cauda e membros acessórios, bem como numa pele feita dessas mesmas notas. O conceito implicava também que, para mim, enquanto artista residente, não gastasse dinheiro algum na feitura da peça, o que me garantiria um ordenado. The realisation of the project Income is mainly due to the fact that 2.000 Swiss francs were placed at my disposal as "additional allowance to the production" in order to create a new piece for the Paul Klee Centre, Bern. The 2.000 Swiss francs are in the truest sense of the word my primary material for the creation of my project. The project consists of two videos (Butterfly and Tail), in which I use the bank notes as additional limbs and wings, and of a fur made out of bank notes. The concept also implied that for me, as the artist there, do not arise any costs from the creation of the piece, which at the same time guarantees me an income. A postmodern story of l'amour fou propelled by a hardcore-industrial soundtrack, the seminal queer film The Living End explores the sexual and fatally romantic consequences of gay male attraction in the 90s. The film focuses on the dire relationship between a pair of young outcasts: Luke the rootless hustler, and Jon, a freelance writer whose life and stability are devastated when he finds out he's HIV positive. With literally nothing to lose, they set off on the lam into the desolate, quasi-surrealistic American Wasteland.

Felix, living in West-Berlin, decides to take an American friend to visit East-Berlin, where they meet young Thomas. Felix rapidly falls in love with Thomas and his visits to the other side of the Wall increase in the following weeks. However, the curfew laws won't allow them to spend a whole night together or build any kind of life together. Felix is forced to go back to West-Berlin at the end of each day and Thomas can't even cross the border. Torn apart by this forced imprisonment, Thomas decides to try fleeing to the West. Westler: East of the Wall contains several silent sequences shot in West Berlin with a Super 8 camera (the only kind of camera that was allowed to be carried across the border). Excerpts from that Super 8 footage, that didn't make it into the final cut of the film, will be projected during the functioning hours of Queer Lounge.

Tearoom consiste em imagens de arquivo captadas pela polícia no decurso de uma operação contra o sexo em público, numa cidade do Midwest Americano. No Verão de 1962, o Departamento de Polícia de Mansfield, no Ohio, registou em filme vários homens numa casa de banho pública da baixa da cidade. O operador de câmara escondeu-se num armário e observou as actividades clandestinas através de um espelho. As imagens captadas foram usadas em tribunal como prova contra os arguidos, todos eles considerados culpados de sodomia que, naquele tempo, significava o mínimo de um ano de pena de prisão efectiva, na penitenciária estatal. A película original destas filmagens acabou na mão do realizador William E. Jones enquanto ele investigava este caso para um projecto de documentário. O registo em bruto dos encontros destes homens comuns, de várias classes sociais e várias raças, para terem relações sexuais, era tão poderoso que o realizador decidiu apresentar estas imagens de arquivo com o mínimo de edição possível. Tearoom é o exemplo radical de um filme apresentado "como descoberto", com o propósito de fazer circular imagens históricas que de outra forma teriam permanecido ocultas.

Tearoom consists of footage shot by the police in the course of a crackdown on public sex in a Midwestern city. In the summer of 1962, the Mansfield, Ohio Police Department photographed men in a restroom under the main square of the city. The cameramen hid in a closet and watched the clandestine activities through a two-way mirror. The film they shot was used in court as evidence against the defendants, all of whom were found guilty of sodomy, which at that time carried a mandatory minimum sentence of one year in the state penitentiary. The original surveillance footage shot by the police came into the possession of director William E. Jones while he was researching this case for a documentary project. The unedited scenes of ordinary men of various races and classes meeting to have sex were so powerful that the director decided to present the footage with a minimum of intervention. Tearoom is a radical example of film presented "as found" for the purpose of circulating historical images that would have otherwise been suppressed.

Nestes últimos anos, tem-se assistido a um crescente descontentamento na Tailândia. Na minha opinião, a raiz dos nossos problemas reside numa forma de ser-se tailandês, que nunca foi propriamente revista. Somos ensinados a acreditar que os Tailandeses devem ter um elevado sentido moral, visto sermos um país budista. Isto faz com que o nosso Ministério da Cultura ocupe grande parte do seu tempo a censurar os media. O ódio dirigido aos muçulmanos existe no coração de algumas pessoas, mas têm de ocultar os seus verdadeiros sentimentos sob um 'sorriso tailandês'. O meu filme é formalmente semelhante aos meus trabalhos anteriores. Foi feito de forma a observar uma pequena vida em Banguecoque, a cidade dos conflitos, a cidade que fingimos ser civilizada. Este filme enclausura-nos num pequeno quarto de hotel no centro de Banguecoque (o edifício foi já demolido e o hotel relocalizado), de forma a escutarmos algumas opiniões sobre o desenvolvimento da metrópole que, em tailandês é denominada de 'Krung Thep', ou 'Cidade dos Anjos'. In these past few years, there has been a growing unrest in Thailand. For me, the root of our problem, which has never been revised, is 'Thainess'. We are taught to believe that Thai people should have good morals since ours' is a Buddhist country. This makes our Ministry of Culture spend most of its time working on media censorship. Hatred towards the Muslim occurs in some people's heart but they have to hide their true feelings under a 'Thai smile'. My film is still in the same style as I did before. It was made to observe a small life in Bangkok, the city of conflicts, the town that we're trying to pretend is civilized. This film will lead you to be trapped in a small hotel room in the middle of Bangkok (the building is now demolished and the hotel has moved), in order to listen to an opinion on the development of the metropolis which is called in Thai "Krung Thep" or "City of Angels". Based on the well-known novel by Frank L. Baum, The Wizard of Oz tells the story of little Dorothy Gale who lives in Kansas with her uncles Em and Henry. Trying to save her beloved dog Toto from the clutches of the dreaded Miss Gulch, she gets caught by a tornado that carries her to the Wonderful World of Oz. Once there, she accidentally kills the Wicked Witch of the East and meets Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. A good-looking store owner unsuccessfully tries to seduce his husky employee, who turns him down preferring a visit to his hairdresser, whose barber chair has more functions than just for cutting hair. But when he tries to prolong the visit by inviting the hairdresser to dinner, he also gets turned down. Meanwhile, the frustrated store owner decides to go to the Adonis, a famous New York City porn theatre, where he hopes to alleviate some of his tensions.
